Rudy and Alex Cyclocross Bike Check

February 27, 2015 | By | 5 Comments

Cyclocross came to an end and we are all preparing for road and track season, but in the mean time Alex and I (Rudy) met in the park to do a bike check of our CX bikes, mine is a custom Victoire-Cycles CX frame and Alex’s is a Cannondale xs800 (Y2K). Big shout out to our sponsor Seabass Cycles for doing a great job putting these 2 bikes together. Click read more below for more photos of both builds, words and full spec list.

My CAA10 is a bit of an unsung hero, Chris decided it deserved some lens time so I decided it warranted some blog time. Some bikes you lust after for the way they look but none you truly love until you put the miles in together. After spiriting me through a successful opening to the season as well as some fantastic adventures such as BKLA13 the memories are beginning to become engrained and love starting to blossom.

Rudy Melo’s Raleigh Team USA Track Bike

March 4, 2013 | By | 5 Comments

I purchased this beautiful steel (Reynolds 531) frame about 2 years ago (or more), but never got around taking some portraits of it and earlier today I met up with Erik Jonsson who took some really nice shots of my Raleigh Team USA Track bike.  I don’t have much information about the bike but from what I have found out it is from the 80s and I believe it was built in Nottingham, England for the USA track team. This built is SUPER comfortable and I love cruising on it. It is a keeper. I love everything about this bike. #SAVETHETRACKBIKE. Click below for more photos and for a bike check.

Bike Check: Chris Pino’s Dolan Seta

September 12, 2012 | By | One Comment

Figured I’d take the chance to introduce myself and do a bike check all in one.
I’ll keep this short and sweet.
I’m Chris. I’m based out of Brooklyn, NY. I work as a photographer. I have a dog. He rules.
I met Dave when he moved to New York for work and he asked me to ride for 5th. I was siked. Not long after I got into a gnarly crash. That put me back on the track bike. So, I’ve been riding the Dolan full time.
You can follow me on Instagram or my blog.

Now onto the good stuff.

Bike Check: Erik Jonsson’s Cannondale Track

August 27, 2012 | By | 6 Comments

Coming off the Keirin 2012 festival last night the bike was geared up for racing and I had the camera with me. So I thought i’d toss up a bike check of the old Cannondale Track 93. Like most dale’s its been doing rounds on the internet every now and then but me personally I never tire of seing or riding them for that matter. This setup is what I train on the velodrome except for the wheels wich is more of a race setup, old and ratty as they are. The Front being a 90’s specialized TT trispoke and the rear is an old italian 80s make restickered fiberglass disc. Fiberglass eventually went out of production as its impossible to recycle and produces a lot of malign factory bi products. neither of these wheels are really appropriate for track racing on the cannondale since the tight chainstay clearence makes the disc rub against them on sprints. The ridiculously tight fork gap scrapes the tire when the rubber heats up and makes it grow slightly. But its damn fast nevertheless. When the bike isnt racing I ride it with a pair of Mavic 32hole quasar tubulars on campagnolo hubs wich fits the frame a whole lot better.

The rest of the parts as follows:

Frame: Cannondale Track ’93 Aluminium 56-56
Crankset: Suntour Superbe Pro 167.5 with 51t Sugino 75 chainring to a 15t Dura Ace cog.
Seatpost: Suntour Superbe Pro to a Bianchi Componenti saddle
Cockpit: ITM Stem to ITM ergal bars.
Headset: Chris King
Bottombracket: Suntour Superbe Pro 109mm
Pedals: Speedplay Zero’s

Bike Check: Dave’s LOOK Track

August 15, 2012 | By | 3 Comments

First off, I’m Phil from Brooklyn,NY, the new guy around here. I’ve been riding forever, and racing track, road and cyclocross for the past 2 years. I’ve got my own blog HERE where I mostly post about rides. Other than that, I’m stoked to be riding and posting for The 5Th Floor!

This past Sunday Dave told me he had a LOOK frame and that he needed a couple small parts to finish the build. I was thinking to myself that he had one of the newer LOOK AL-P 464 frames. I was unexpectedly greeted with this yellow gem! I helped him build it up and shot some photos of it before we headed out for a ride. Click on photos to open in new tab, or view the full set HERE.

Bike check: Erik Jonsson’s Pinarello Stelvio

August 12, 2012 | By | 4 Comments

Quick and dirty bike check with my Pinarello Stelvio. I acquired this bike built up with a mix of mirage and athena components earlier this spring and swapped most of the original setup out for high end 90’s campy. I’ve put in around 200 miles a week on this since may and its become my main training ride, only replaced by the cannondale for training on the velodrome and with a pista concept as commuter. It definitely doesn’t have anything on then new modern spec steel builds out there since its heavy (frameset is well over 2kgs) and has become quite flexy over time. But its a sweet ride with its steep agressive classic italian geometry and smooth vibration absorbing dedaccai tubes. And everyone wants to talk to you about the yellow pinarello when you are on the road no doubt =)

Frame: Pinarello steel frame with Dedacciai Kens oversized tubing
Headset: Campagnolo Chorus
Bottombracket: Campagnolo Record
Seatpost: Campagnolo Athena
Crankset: Campagnolo Record
Front Derailleur: Campagnolo Chorus
Rear Derailleur: Campagnolo Record
Chain: Campagnolo Veloce 10s
Brakes: Campagnolo Record
Cassette: Campagnolo Chorus Ti
Stem: 3T Ergo Power
Handlebars: 3T Ergo Power Due
Levers: Campagnolo Chorus Ergo 10Speed
Saddle: Flite Ti
Rims: Zipp 440 Tubular
Hubs: Rear Hope Ti, Front Pmp
Tyres: Vittoria Corsa Evo CX

Chris and his Chesini

May 21, 2012 | By | One Comment

Me and my Roomie Chris went for a ride and a coffee a couple of days ago and after years of me trying (he never let me) I managed to take a photo of him and one of his bikes.
Then he had to take a phone call and I took some photos of his summer ride while he was distracted 🙂
